Counseling in the College Selection Process
People are surprised to find out that less than 10% of all school counselors took a course in college counseling as part of their professional training. Combined with the high number of students each counselor has to support, it isn’t surprising why students, parents—and counselors themselves—wish this training was available to more counselors.
Since 2008, College is Yours has provided this training to school counselors, counseling paraprofessionals, advisers supporting community based organizations, and others involved in the college selection process. Topics addressed include:
-- Building a college counseling curriculum
-- Building community support for your college counseling program
-- College counseling for middle and elementary school
-- Searching for colleges
-- Expanding the colleges you know about
-- Writing letters of recommendation
-- Working with students and families
-- Paying for college
-- College counseling ethics
The class is available in online, hybrid, and face-to-face versions, making it accessible to every interested educator in the world.
